Yarn
Light rose gray and medium brown fiber. The majority of our fiber is turned into
yarn.
Raw Fiber

Light rose gray fiber taken directly fromthe animal on shearing day and placed in
a plastic bag for storage.
Batts & Rovings

A small amount of our fiber is turned into batts for quilters and rovings for spinners.
Alpaca & Bamboo Yarn
We have expanded our yarn selection to include yarn made with bamboo
fiber. Bamboo is an eco-friendly, sustainable product that requires no
fertilizers or pesticides. It gows very
rapidly and requires little to no care. It is a renewable resource that grows
very fast.
Bamboo fiber has unique, natural antibacterial properties. It has been tested by
the Japan Textile Inspection Association and shows that bamboo fiber fabric, even after
numerous washings, still retains its antibacterial properties. This is a natural
element in the bamboo and does not require the use of harsh chemicals.

The fiber products produced by our farm fall into a couple of different categories.
Most of the fiber is used to produce yarn. We use micro mills based inthe U.S. to
produce our yarn. We look for mills that are using ecologically friendly techniques
for cleaning the fiber;
no harsh chemicals. Our yarn is configured in 250 yard skeins
of DK/Sport weight yarn. The actual weight of each skein will vary based on the
particular fiber utilized.
In addition to yarn, some of our fiber is used to make quilt batting. These are
approximately 2' by 3' rectangular sections of fiber mesh. We aslo have a limited
quantities of rovings available for spinners. However, since most of our fiber goes
into yarn, we do not have a large supply of rovings.
Lastly, we also will sell raw fiber. We separate our fiber into prime blanket and
neck fiber for each animal. The leg fiber and any other third cuts are placed into
a common collection. Raw fiber is directly from the animal into a bag. It can contain
dirt and debris from the animal and the fields.
Alpaca fiber is graded based onthe diameter/thickness of the fiber. The following
grading levels are used by our farm.
Less than 20 microns = Ultra Fine or Royal Baby
20 to <23 microns = Super Fine or Baby
23 to <26 microns = Fine
26 to <29 microns = Medium/Adult
29 to 32.0 microns = Intermediate
Greater than 32 microns = Course
